Abstract

The current phenomenon shows that many principal are not able to carry out their leadership duties maximally. In fact, to develop educational institutions, leaders must make effort to create innovative and creative changes by forming an established work team, to achieve school goals is carried out with participatory cooperation. This article discusses the meaning of transformational leadership styles in managing educational units to encourage the teachers of Islamic religious education (PAI) performance. Transformational leadership style is a process of leaders and followers raising themselves to a higher level of morality and motivation. The characteristics of the transformational leadership style is two main characters, that is idealized influence and individualized consideration. A leader can transform his subordinates through four components, such as charismatic leadership, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation and individualized consideration. PAI teacher performance is something that is achieved by a person in carrying out his/her duties or work for a certain period based on the standards and criteria have been set for the job. The performance of PAI teachers is in accordance with their respective authorities and responsibilities to achieve the goals of the organization concerned legally, without violating the law and in accordance with morals or ethics.
